Rat & Mouse Removal & Rodent Proofing in Winters, CA

Winters homes sit between orchards, Putah Creek, and open farmland. That mix brings roof rats to the roofline. We find and seal the openings rats and mice use, and trap any still inside if needed. Inspections are free, with a written estimate before work starts. If you are searching for rodent control near you in Winters, this is the local page: what we check, how the work runs, and what an inspection covers here.

Roofline and exterior areas inspected for rodent entry points

Key takeaways

  • Orchards, creek corridors, and mature trees give roof rats food, cover, and a route to the roof.
  • Older in-town homes often have roof to wall gaps and aging vent screens.
  • Rural properties need the detached garage, shop, and outbuildings checked too.
  • Seal first. Traps remove the rodents inside.

Rats or mice in your home?

Hearing scratching above the ceiling in Winters?

That sound usually means roof rats bridged from a tree, fence, or utility line onto the roof and found a gap. We check the roofline, vents, and garage together, then explain what needs sealing.

Why do Winters homes get rats in the attic?

Winters is farm country, and roof rats live there all year. Orchards and gardens give food. Putah Creek and irrigation give water and cover. Trees, fences, and utility lines give a route to the roof. Roof rats climb well and test every gap, vent, and transition. A rat needs an opening only about the size of a quarter, so nothing needs to look broken from the ground.

Think you have mice? It may be rats.

The first call here is often mice in a garage, shop, or outbuilding. Sometimes that is right. But a rat problem in the attic can sit above a mouse problem in the garage the same week. Mouse droppings are about a quarter inch, pointed. Rat droppings are about half an inch. Rats sound heavier overhead and mark their routes with dark rub stains. Mice stay lower and quieter.

What is different about older homes in town?

Many homes near the historic downtown core were built before modern sealing, and added onto over the years. That leaves extra roof to wall junctions where gaps hide. Open eaves, aging vent screens, and transitions between an original roof and a later addition are used most. Older homes can be proofed. The inspection has to be at ladder level, junction by junction.

I live on a rural property outside town. What else gets checked?

Detached garages, shops, and outbuildings give rodents shelter close to the home, and activity often starts there. We check garage door corners, side doors, and utility openings on those buildings along with the house, plus crawlspace access, stored feed, and trees or lines that bridge to the roof. The estimate spells out which buildings are included.

Can rats get in through roof vents and garage doors in Winters?

Yes. These are two of the most common routes we find. A roof vent with a loose or rotted screen leads straight into the attic, and vent assemblies have gaps of their own. Garage door corners rarely seal tight, and mice need only a quarter inch. From the garage, framing and utility openings can lead to the attic, so attic droppings do not always mean a roof entry.

Should you trap first, or seal first?

Seal first, so the next group cannot move in. Then trap the animals still inside. Trapping alone never ends, because the openings stay open. We set the plan at the inspection, then come back for trap checks.

What does a Winters inspection include, and what does it cost to start?

The inspection is free. We check the roofline, attic, garage, and outside, including rural outbuildings when they are part of the problem. We show you what we find and give a written estimate listing the openings to seal and any trapping or clean-up we recommend. Cost depends on the number of openings and access.

What we check first in Winters

Roof to wall gaps on older homes, vent screens, and garage and outbuilding openings. Also the trees and lines that bridge from orchards and creek corridors to the roof.

Do you provide rodent proofing in Winters, CA?+

Yes. Winters is a primary service area for us. We are based in Dixon at 529 N Adams St STE A. Call (707) 754-2408 for a free inspection.

How much does rodent proofing cost in Winters?+

It depends on the number and type of openings and how safely they can be reached. The free inspection comes with a written estimate, so you know the cost before work starts.

Do you work on rural properties and outbuildings outside the Winters town limits?+

Yes. Detached garages, shops, and outbuildings are checked along with the house, and the estimate states which buildings are included.

Why do rats keep getting into homes near the orchards and Putah Creek?+

Orchards, gardens, and the creek give roof rats food, water, and cover close to homes. Trees, fences, and lines give a route to the roof. Trimming helps, but the openings still have to be sealed.

Do I need attic clean-up or new insulation after a Winters rodent problem?+

Not always. Many homes need proofing and trapping only. If droppings or damaged insulation are heavy, clean-up is discussed separately. It is never built in automatically.

The Integrity Process

Our 4-Step Rodent Proofing Process

Inspect. Proof. Clean Up. Follow Up. We inspect the whole home, seal the entry points, clean and sanitize on the same visit, then set traps and keep coming back until the house stays quiet.

01

Rodent Inspection

The inspection is free, and it is where every job starts. Our inspector checks the attic, roofline, garage, crawlspace when there is one, and the full outside of the home, tracing droppings and runways back to the openings rats and mice are using. He takes photos of what he finds, and the inspection becomes a written estimate with a report and map our crew works from.

02

Rodent Proofing

Our crew works from the inspector's report and map, sealing every entry point rats and mice are using, and the ones they could use next. We seal with construction grade materials.

03

Rodent Clean-Up & Sanitation

Clean-up is its own step, but it happens on the same visit as the proofing, while the crew is already there. Where it is accessible, we remove droppings, nesting material, damaged insulation, plastic vapor barrier, and heat duct insulation, then sanitize and deodorize the areas we cleaned. Damaged materials go back new and up to code, and we protect the inside of the home while we work.

04

Follow-Up & Trap Checks

After the proofing, we come back every 3-5 days until there is zero activity. At each visit we check the traps and re-inspect the sealing, looking for any new opening or fresh sign that rats or mice are still moving. Once the traps stay empty and the house stays quiet, we take the traps out and the job is done.
