Rat & Mouse Removal & Rodent Proofing in Citrus Heights, CA

Hearing rats in the attic, or finding droppings in the garage? We provide rat and mouse removal and rodent proofing in Citrus Heights from our base in Dixon, along Interstate 80. It is a mature suburb of ranch homes and big trees, built mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, with creeks behind the neighborhoods. We inspect, seal the openings, and trap any rodents still inside. Inspections are free, with a written estimate before work begins. If you are searching for rodent control near you in Citrus Heights, this is the local page: what we check, how the work runs, and what an inspection covers here.

Roofline and exterior areas inspected for rodent entry points

Key takeaways

  • Most homes are 1970s and 1980s ranch tracts, old enough for vents and seals to have opened up
  • The mature tree canopy is a roof rat route: branches, fences, and lines lead straight to the roofline
  • Arcade Creek and Cripple Creek run behind neighborhoods, with Stock Ranch open space at the east end
  • Seal every opening. Traps remove the rodents inside

Rats or mice in your home?

Scratching in the attic of your Citrus Heights home?

Roof rats ride the mature tree canopy and fences into Citrus Heights attics. Mice and rats work the crawlspace, foundation, and garage openings below. We check both levels, plus the creek side, so the estimate covers how they are getting in.

Why do Citrus Heights homes get rats and mice?

Nearly all Citrus Heights housing went up from the 1960s through the 1980s. That leaves two things rodents use: a mature tree canopy over almost every street, and homes old enough for vent screens and seals to have worn out. Roof rats travel the canopy and fences into attics. Mice and rats work the lower openings. Creeks behind the neighborhoods keep the population supplied.

Think you have mice? It may be rats.

In the ranch tracts, mice are a fair guess. House mice work garage corners and crawlspaces here. But attic scratching blamed on mice is a roof rat as often as not. Droppings tell them apart: about a quarter inch and pointed for mice, about half an inch for rats. We identify the animal at the inspection, then seal the low openings mice use and the roofline openings rats use.

How do Arcade Creek and Cripple Creek feed the problem?

Arcade Creek runs across Citrus Heights and Cripple Creek joins it, with the Stock Ranch Nature Preserve on the east side. Creeks are covered travel routes, and they end at back fences across the city. From the fence, a branch or line bridges to the roof. On creek-side homes we start at the back: rear roof transitions, overhanging trees, and garage and foundation openings.

What ages on 1970s and 1980s ranch homes?

Most homes here are single-story ranches around Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane. At forty to sixty years old, entry points are predictable: torn vent screens, eave gaps, roof-to-wall junctions where patio covers were tied in, garage corners that no longer seal, and crawlspace openings. We work that list junction by junction. There is rarely just one hole.

Older core, later tracts: does the part of the city matter?

Some. The older core along Auburn Boulevard has smaller homes and mature lots. The big tract waves followed Sunrise Mall in the 1970s and 1980s. Later infill toward Roseville is tighter at the foundation, so openings gather at the roof. Either way, we cover roof, attic, garage, and ground level, weighted to age and canopy.

Should you trap first, or seal first?

Seal first, then trap. We seal the openings first, so the next group cannot move in. Then trapping removes the animals still inside. Trapping alone never ends, because the openings stay open. We set both plans at the inspection, then return for trap checks.

What does a Citrus Heights inspection include, and what does it cost to start?

The inspection is free. We check the roofline, attic, garage, crawlspace where there is one, and the outside, with extra time on the canopy and creek side. We show you what we find and give a written estimate listing the openings to seal.

What we check first in Citrus Heights

We start with the canopy and the creek side: overhanging branches, fence-to-roof connections, and vents facing Arcade Creek or Cripple Creek. In the ranch tracts, crawlspace and foundation openings get equal time, because these homes often have a way in at both levels.

How much does rodent proofing cost in Citrus Heights?+

It depends on how many openings your home has and how safely they can be reached. The inspection is free, with a written estimate before work starts.

Do the big trees in Citrus Heights really bring rats to the roof?+

Yes. Roof rats climb, and a mature canopy gives them covered travel. A branch near the roof or a utility line is enough. Trimming helps. Sealing the roofline openings is the lasting fix.

My home backs onto Arcade Creek or Cripple Creek. Does that matter?+

Usually it means steadier pressure. The creeks are where rodents live and travel, and creek-side homes are the first shelter they reach. We weight the inspection to the creek side.

Do I need attic clean-up or new insulation after a Citrus Heights rodent problem?+

Not always. Many homes need proofing and trapping only. If droppings or damaged insulation are heavy, clean-up can be discussed separately after the inspection.

The Integrity Process

Our 4-Step Rodent Proofing Process

Inspect. Proof. Clean Up. Follow Up. We inspect the whole home, seal the entry points, clean and sanitize on the same visit, then set traps and keep coming back until the house stays quiet.

01

Rodent Inspection

The inspection is free, and it is where every job starts. Our inspector checks the attic, roofline, garage, crawlspace when there is one, and the full outside of the home, tracing droppings and runways back to the openings rats and mice are using. He takes photos of what he finds, and the inspection becomes a written estimate with a report and map our crew works from.

02

Rodent Proofing

Our crew works from the inspector's report and map, sealing every entry point rats and mice are using, and the ones they could use next. We seal with construction grade materials.

03

Rodent Clean-Up & Sanitation

Clean-up is its own step, but it happens on the same visit as the proofing, while the crew is already there. Where it is accessible, we remove droppings, nesting material, damaged insulation, plastic vapor barrier, and heat duct insulation, then sanitize and deodorize the areas we cleaned. Damaged materials go back new and up to code, and we protect the inside of the home while we work.

04

Follow-Up & Trap Checks

After the proofing, we come back every 3-5 days until there is zero activity. At each visit we check the traps and re-inspect the sealing, looking for any new opening or fresh sign that rats or mice are still moving. Once the traps stay empty and the house stays quiet, we take the traps out and the job is done.
